Henry Casvil Carnahan
90, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away July 10, 2006, at a Houston, Texas Hospital. He was born July 2, 1916, in the Marrs Hill Township, Arkansas, the son of Sam Lafour and Mary Francis Cook Carnahan.
Henry was a member of the Viney Grove United Methodist Church. He married Thelma Gulley of West Fork, Arkansas, in 1938. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II with service aboard the USS Curtis from 1941 to 1945. He worked for Safeway Stores and retired after nineteen years as the Distribution Center Maintenance Manager in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
After his early retirement from Safeway, Henry and Thelma relocated to Sylmar, California where Henry worked part-time in industrial refrigeration and became a dedicated golfer, a game he would continue to enjoy throughout his life. After full retirement in 1979 Henry and Thelma moved to Kerrville, Texas where they enjoyed tending to their large vegetable garden and relaxing with their many friends. With Thelma's death in 1999, Henry returned to his childhood home of Prairie Grove, where he lived for the past five years with the loving support of his extended family.
Survivors include two sons, David R. Carnahan and wife, Francette of Houston, Texas, and James E. Carnahan and wife, Phylis of Tucson, Arizona; one grandson, Christopher Carnahan of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Robert Eugene "Gene" Carnahan of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends form 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday night at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 14, 2006 - 10:00 A.M. at the Viney Grove United Methodist Church near Prairie Grove, Arkansas with Dr. Joe B. Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Carnahan, Nye Carnahan, Hunter Carnahan, Joe Kretschmar, Jason Daugherty, and Phillip Carnahan.
