Notes for ALEXANDER PRESTON DUNN:

l Alexander was the Post Master at the Evansville, Arkansas Post Office during the 1920's. He was transferred to Fort Smith. He also owned a ferry that crossed the Arkansas River from Van Buren to Fort Smith.

l At the age of 19 Elmo died when his plane was shot down over the English Channel. As a part of the 8th Air Force he was the top ball-turret gunner in a B17 (Flying Fortress). He was returning to England from a bombing mission over Germany. His rank was that of a Staff Seargent, and he won the 'Purple Heart" from the English Air Corps. 28,000 such gunners were killed during the war. there missions were considered suicide missions. Any airman that completed 25 missions were sent home.

l His remains were sent home in a sealed casket and his mother, Linnie, pried it open to "make sure" it was in fact her son. He is buried at the Academy Cemetery in Evansville, Arkansas very near his parents Linnie Goldman and Preston Dunn.
