Mary Cummings Jongeward

Mary Rebecca Cummings Jongeward was born in the family home in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, on March 30, 1916, and died at the Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, Arkansas on April 19, 2010.

A devoted daughter, sister, wife and aunt, she attended the University of Arkansas and entered the service in 1943. She served for 22 years and three months, as a WAC in the United States Army, in Japan and Germany and on several bases in the United States.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rogers, the Enoch Ashley chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society. She was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party.

She was an active volunteer in many organizations in Rogers, including the Friends of the Library, the Rogers Museum, and the Symphony Guild.

She was an avid bridge player and loved working in her garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Douglas Cummings and Mary Rebecca “Bess” Cummings; her husband, Cy Jongeward; her brother, Judge Lincoln Maupin Cummings; and her sisters, Lucy Cummings Webster and Emilie Cummings Bell.

She is survived by her sister, Roberta Cummings Tucker of Rogers, Arkansas, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great,great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, 208 E Bush Street in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, with the family receiving friends at the church prior to the service.
