Obituary

L. V. Vickery

Age 87, a lifetime resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas went to be with Jesus on January 1, 2025. He was born December 24, 1937 in Cove Creek, Arkansas to Charles “Link” Lincoln Vickery and Ollie Bell Phillips Vickery.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1973. It became his life long mission to be an honest, faithful, diligent servant of the Lord!  His heart and passion were to preach God‘s word and lead others to Christ. Everyone who came in contact with him knew that he loved Jesus and that he loved them. He served in his community whenever there was a need. He was a pastor for over 46 years mostly at Liberty 86 Church where he served until 2022.

His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He loved to challenge himself to build things out of stuff that people would not normally use. He was a man of many talents!

He was a Jack of all trades. Over the years he operated a dozer, a skidder for logging, and a bucket truck for trimming trees. He worked at Kelly Canning Co. for years doing various jobs. He retired from the University of Arkansas after working 17 years in the garage and for the grounds crew. Retirement allowed him more time to devote to ministry.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers CL Vickery and Rue Vickery and three sisters Lillian Barnes, Oma Bennett, and Norma Brockman.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Lorene Vickery, three daughters, Betty (Jim) Sargent of Strickler, Arkansas, LeAnn (Byron) Suggs, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, and Susan (Toby) Slinkard of Fayetteville, Arkansas. LV was such a wonderful man. When I was a child, he would take me back-and-forth to church. And I would listen to him preach later, as I grew up into a young adult, he married Bobby, and I at the age of 18 in the corner of his living room with Lorena as witness. i've thought of him often over the years and what a difference he made in my life. Now that Bobby and I have celebrated 43 years of marriage , I still think of him every day, for the time and love he gave to me as a young girl wanting to walk with God. He baptized me and has been someone I have loved throughout my life. He will be deeply missed by some many because of the impact that he made in their lives as well. My thoughts and love go out to Lorena and the girls. And just want them to know how blessed they were to have him as a husband and father.

L V was a precious person to me, if you have ever heard him preach you would know how much he loved the Lord, and anyone who loves the Lord is a friend of mine. I believe I grew up spiritually every time I heard him preach. May the Lord be with Lorene and the girls through this very hard time. We will see him again!

LV was just one of the most amazing men, on fire for God, preached the word and knew the word front to back. He leaves shoes too large to fill and is no doubt jumping and praising God today. Our condolences, prayers and blessings to all the family and Liberty 86 church!

Lorene, Betty, Leigh Ann, Susan, and extended family, praying for you that God will comfort you during this time. LV walked with God on this earth, and we rejoice that LV is now receiving his just rewards in Heaven. Truly a man of God. He preached Gods word with sincere reverence and humility. Words can’t express, only time will reveal what this man has done for the Kingdom of God. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

I had the opportunity to meet LV and hear him preach at 86 many times. LV was not just a good Man but, an exceptional Man at the very least. While those of us left here to wait and watch for that great day we get to meet our Lord and Savior, LV has arrived to spend eternity with him. While we will miss LV imagine if you can, just how thrilled he is to be home!!!! My prayers are with his Family…

I will always be indebted to LV as he mentored me through my first funeral. It was a funeral for at 22-month old military dependent of an active duty U.S. Marine. LV officiated the civilian portion of the funeral while I performed the military portion. LV's advice was divinely guided by a Saint that truly had been annointed the by the Almighty God Himself. Every funeral since then I've reflected on LV's guidance before any preparation is started. I look forward meeting you again sir in our final and eternal resting place with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
