Dave was one of those people that was so full of life his zeal would spill over to those around him. In the early 1960's President Kennedy was concerned about our nations fitness and encouraged young people to walk 50 miles. Dave organized a group of us to take up the presidents challenge and we set off on a school day to walk from Shidler to Ponca City and back. We assumed since the president endorsed the walks that it would be okay with the school administration (Wrong) In those days none of us had ever heard of walking shoes and we not have afforded them even if they had them. We did not pack a lunch, bring water ( no bottled water then) but we set off. We made it to Ponca City about 32 miles by early evening hungry, tired, thirsty, sunburnt and huge blisters on our feet. We hitched a ride home in the back of a pickup truck. In school the next day we were given a suspension for a unexcused asbense. Dave completely ticked off wrote the President a letter explaining our predictment. He received a letter back from the White House applauding our resolve in taking up the presidents challenge however, our education was much more important and encourged us to walk on a weekend next time. Needless to say their was no next time. I hope Dave kept that letter over the years.
Gary Briggs - Cousin
Dave and I were together for 21 years and the most I remember about him was he taught me to live and learn and to be me. We had a lot of long talks and I grew as a women. I loved him and always will. He will be missed so very much. He was in so much pain all the time. Now he is free of pain. He loved life and was so intelligent. I always admired how he treated people with respect and kindness. I will go on as he taught me and Dave will be in my heart with me forever. His loving wife
Marcie Graham - Wife
Dave never forgot his friends or loved ones. He would just call out of the blue, just to say Hey, what's up? We will never forget Dave as he left his mark on us all in his own way! As we trust in God, we know that Dave has just begun a new life.
