Obituary

Mary Alice Storms

91, passed away July 28, 2018. She was the only child of Robert and Alice McManaway. She was born on July 1, 1927 in Kansas City, KS. Growing up there she was a child prodigy, playing the accordion on the radio and in several bands. She attended the Rosedale Congregational Church in Kansas City, that her grandfather helped build. She was also baptized there, married there and had her three sons baptized there. She married William (Bill) Henry Storms from Pleasant Hill, MO, on June 14, 1947. After several moves, in 1961 they bought a farm in the Greenland/Prairie Grove area. She lived on the farm until several years ago, when poor health required her to move in with her son in Siloam Springs, AR.

Mary Alice was noted for her zest for life. Nearly everyone who met her, instantly wanted to be adopted into our family. She was the center for our entire family. She was respectfully given the title of “Queen Mother”. Her biggest passions were her three sons, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also loved to travel, it did not matter where. She was always ready to go. Her talent for playing many instruments was amazing and her desire for playing music never left her. Even at 90, she still played a couple of songs with an accordion band.

Eventually, Mary Alice lost a long battle to stomach cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill Storms. She is survived by her three sons, Steven Storms, Tacoma, WA; Michael Storms, Springdale, AR; Patrick Storms, Siloam Springs, AR; her seven grandchildren, David Storms, Springdale; Dr. Darrin Storms, Springdale; Shannon Storms Provident, Covington, WA; Robert (Drew) Storms, Mill Creek, WA; Jarrod Storms, Siloam Springs; Daniel Storms, Fayetteville; Rob Storms, Springdale; great-grandchildren, Colin Provident, Covington, WA; Will Storms, Springdale; Jaxon Storms, Mill Creek, WA; Sarah Storms, Springdale; Austin (AJ) Storms, Mill Creek, WA; Whitley Storms, Springdale, Simon Storms, Fayetteville and a multitude of other family members and friends. She will be missed by many, but will join the many that preceded her.

Visitation of family and friends will be held at Luginbuel Funeral Home on 115 Neal Street in Prairie Grove, AR on Monday July 30 from 6 – 8 pm.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery Pavilion in Fayetteville at 10 am on Tuesday July 31st.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to Washington Regional Hospice, Fayetteville AR, 72703.

There will never be another “Mother Storms.” Her love of life should be an inspiration to us all. Blessed to have known her, been one of her many “kids” and to have shared fun and special times with her. I’m sure she’s already recruited a group of loyal Hog fans above and is sharing her love, warm smile and great laugh. Our most sincere condolences to all of her family, especially to Penny and Pat.
