Obituary

Joy Lee Stutts was called to her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2020. She was born on September 2, 1927, in West Fork, Arkansas. She was the youngest of seven children born to Paul Emerson and Lela Stevens Swonger all of whom preceded her in death. Joy spent her early years on her family's farm off Mineral Springs Road in West Fork and attended Trace Valley School. She relates stories that her father drove the wagon to town while her mother and the kids stayed home. She does not recall that her mother ever accompanied her husband to town as there was always much work to be done on the farm and he did  return with everything his wife requested. Joy married Hubert Burris in 1947. The family consisted of two sons, Gary Underhill who died in childhood, and Henry Burris and their daughter Karen (Burris) Sergeant with whom she lived during her last years and who lovingly cared for her mother. Hubert died in 1976. Joy married E.V. Stutts in 1978. He preceded her in death in 2011. Joy doted on Karen's son, Avery, Joy's only grandchild. She adored Avery Johnson's wife Colby and their daughter Stella and granddaughter Krista Wood and husband Arron and their children, Ella and Alexander. Always a hard working and artistic woman, Joy preserved the vegetables and fruits from her gardens. People greatly admired the roses and other flowers she grew. The many quilts she and E.V. created were beautifully and lovingly worked. Joy's love for God and her belief in Jesus as her Savior were important to her and sustained her through many difficult times. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Fayetteville. We will all miss this gentle lady.
