Obituary

James Michael Mallett

Age 64, a resident of Farmington, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021 in Farmington, Arkansas. He was born September 11, 1956 in Wynne, Arkansas, the son of Morse and Lula (West) Mallett.

Jim Mallett was the type of coach every parent would choose their athlete to have. He was tough, but loved his athletes and encouraged them to be their best on and off the field. He taught them and his children to be leaders not followers.

Being a devoted family man, Jim was happiest when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and all of his nieces and nephews.

Jim's boisterous, loud laugh was one you don't forget. His sense of humor and the many pranks he played will live on in the memories of many with whom he coached and taught.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Danny Mallett, his father-in-law Malcom Burnette, and one brother-in-law David Burnette.

Survivors include his wife Debbie Mallett; one son Ryan Mallett of Mountain Home, Arkansas; one daughter Lauren Mallett-Hays and her husband Justin of Farmington, Arkansas; two brothers Trent Mallett and his wife Kay of Conway, Arkansas, and Mark Mallett and his wife Jean of Rogers, Arkansas; one sister Jeannine Jolly and her husband Ronnie of Bald Knob, Arkansas; one sister-in-law Teresa Mallett of Carlisle, Arkansas; his mother-in-law Gail Burnette of Farmington, Arkansas; three grandchildren Hadley, Harper, and Davis Hays; numerous nieces, nephews, and countless student athletes that he helped form into outstanding citizens.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral at Summers Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, July 30th, 2021, at Summers Missionary Baptist Church in Summers, Arkansas. Graveside service will be in Mallettown Cemetery near Springfield, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be Terry Murphy, Ron Holley, Scott Mennie, Kevin Hamilton, David Hardy, and Jim LeGrand.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dax Moreton, Courtney Mallett, Beau Mallett, Blane Mallett, Kyle Mallett, and Will Jolly.

Tributes

Father, You hold time within your hands, and see it all, from beginning to end. Please keep and carry Jim’s family in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love, give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, lift their eyes so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and be comforted by the promise of heaven. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
Patrick Burnette - Friend and relative by marriage
I remember Jim, throughout our school years in Searcy, as one who befriended all with his contagious smile, his great booming voice and infectious laughter, and a heart of service. There is no doubt his legacy of coaching/mentoring others will be seen in the lives of all who loved and respected him for many years to come. May God's peace fill your hearts.
Mary Rushton Gerken - School Classmate
Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted. My dear friend Jim, you will be greatly missed. You have touched a lot of lives on this side of Jordan. We have been friends since 4th grade with a plethora of memories. I am so thankful we talked a few weeks ago and as always you were excited to tell me about Debbie and the grand children, your heart beats. As we always did, we ended our conversation with I love you and I do and will always love you dearly. Take your rest now dear friend, see ya soon.

Debbie, Ryan, and Lauren We were shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Coach Mallett. Our friendship during your Lincoln coaching/teaching days were very special. Jim’s laugh and positive words were like no other. Dustin and Dalton remember Coach Mallett very well. Jim left a positive impression on my boys. I know how hard the sudden loss is and my heart hurts for you Debbie and for Lauren and Ryan. May God comfort you and give you strength today and days to come. Debbie, I so sorry to hear of your loss. I can remember playing baseball with Jim and the boys at grandpa Mallett's house when we were kids. Seems like yesterday. Sorry, we're out of state right now, but know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Jim heard the words we all long to hear. "Well done my good and faithful servant." Jim is now resting in the arms of the Lord. God bless you and your family and may he rest in peace.

I still look around at every staff meeting for Jim Mallet to try and scare me when I least expect it! What an honor to have taught with both Jim and Debbie for so many years. One of the funniest memories I have is of him relieving us during state testing… as teachers, we cannot leave the room without a certified teacher coming in to take our place. In order to let the “reliever” know we needed a break, we had small red cones to put outside our door. As luck would have it, Coach was right outside my door ready, willing, and able to relieve the six of us on our hall. An ELA teacher two doors down from me needed to take a break and put her cone out for him. I lost track of time as to how long the cone was there as she waited patiently for him. I will NEVER FORGET when she picked up the cone and threw it down the hall at him! I still laugh during testing days when I pick up my cone. Rest In Peace, Jim Mallet, and scare teachers at in-service in Heaven.

Jim was such a good influence on both my sons when they played sports at Lincoln School. He was respected and kids looked up to him. He was always laughing and enjoyed his job. He made such an impression on all who knew him. His legacy will live on in our hearts. May you find comfort and peace in the days to follow.

I met Coach Mallett when he coached at Lincoln and although I had not seen him in many years he always had a special place in my heart. He was someone who always made me feel like I was someone. He was funny and someone I respected. Deepest condolences to the family. I pray your memories together never fade.
