Tributes

Elzie, I remember the very first time you walked into the classroom in Greenland Jr. High, 1967, wondering who this red headed, freckled face kid was. Once we successfully wiped out the newly arrived ant farms in Guy Davis' biology class I new we would be best friends for life, and that is exactly what we became. From shooting your Dad's pecan tree and grape vine supports; to turning his Red Angus into white face by dropping flour bombs from an Cessna 150; to adventures on the pipeline in TX, WY, OK, and CO; to trips to Cozumel and getting thrown out of customs because of a stinky Conch shell ; to trips to the hospital; to castrating bull calves with pocket knives; and shutting down frat parties while attending the UofA, we remained best friends for 52 years. I remember the countless hours we spent laughing and reading Mad Magazine;, your Louis L'Amour novels; and adventures of Chun & Remo Williams. Every time I hear the Marshall Tucker Band's "Fire on the Mountain" or one of the songs from the Ozark Mountain Daredevils' "Car Over the Lake" album I remember all our good times camping out in WY in 1979 while on a pipeline project; and how we tried to set up our tent on June 10th of that summer and we couldn't because it was snowing too hard. I don't know how it is that two people could be so like-minded. All I know is that I will forever cherish the wonderful times we shared and the precious memories of fun & adventures that I will carry with me through the remainder of my years. As we spoke before the LORD brought you home, please save me a seat at the banquet table when we will all be gathered to celebrate eternal life with Jesus. I love you to death dear friend. Until we meet again in heaven, Danny

I first met Elzie at Redi-Lube as a customer, many years ago. He made getting an oil change FUN! Always the jokester, and it never failed that we had lots to talk about. I was so sad when he started having the health issues and was no longer at the shop when I would go in. And eventually I got newer cars that were under warranty with free oil changes at the dealership, so I have not been to Redi-Lube in recent years. But my husband, Gene still goes there. He saw the obituary on Saturday and told me. Telisa, I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. He was a great guy (as well as quite a character). He sure will be missed by many.

Elzie made getting an oil change fun. He always had a funny story and many funny comments. The story I remember most was about a trail ride that he went on in- I believe Colorado and his rendition of the "trail horse from hell". I was in tears during the whole story. He was quite the story teller, you could picture the whole ride. He will be missed very much.

I rember Leon from school how he could be serious and funny at the same time. He was always so friendly and helpful to everyone he met. If you saw a flash of Redhair or Danny Dial you knew it was Leon coming down the hall. Over the years I would run into Leon every once in a while as he was always on a new adventure out of state somewhere and it was just like we had talked the week before. Good by old friend you will be missed.
