Obituary

Alice Faye Deese

Age 83, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, January 28, 2024 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Alice was the fifth of seven children born to Burtis Delton Horton and Cloa Mae Jackson Horton. She was born in Lilbourn, Missouri, on February 3, 1940, and spent her childhood picking cotton on tenant farms across Southeast Missouri.

She attended high school in Van Buren, Missouri, and the family later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Alice completed her final year of high school and worked for the U.S. Jaycees for 18 years. She married Ronald Lee Deese on February 4, 1972, and they moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas, in 1978, where they operated a poultry farm until Ron’s death in 1991. Alice then worked for the University of Arkansas until her retirement in 2010. In her later years, she spent her time making quilts, many of which she gave to homeless shelters and veterans homes.

Alice accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in her twenties and was a faithful member of New Sulphur Free Will Baptist Church in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, for more than 40 years.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers Carroll Ray (Louise) Horton, Edward Leon (Bernice) Horton, and Jackson Walter Horton; her sisters Nora Frances (Clifton) Watts, Gladys Marlene (James) Parker, and Genola Jane Horton; and her brother-in-law David Leon Luce.

Alice is survived by her son Ronald Lee Deese II and daughter-in-law Teresa Deese of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; grandchildren Ezra (Ruby) Deese of Conway, Arkansas, Jesse Deese of Mayport Naval Base, Florida, Heath Deese of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, and Cora Deese of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; sister-in-law Lynette Horton of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and sister-in-law Janice Luce of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews that were also dear to her.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 - 11:00 A.M. at Proctor Cemetery in Proctor, Oklahoma.

Thanks so much for posting this message I loved Alice very much we seem to have things in common being the same age but was raised in different part of US we spent our growing up years in Tennessee & she in Missouri & Okla Alice & I would talk by phone every few months keeping up with all the news I will truly miss those calls but she will be waiting for me at the pearly gates Love all of you

Alice was truly a kind lady who possessed great work ethic. She always took time to bake cakes or pies for peoples' birthdays in the office. Alice was a genuinely good person and it was a pleasure to know her.
