Dr. Clayton's humor, compassion, and guidance lead me to a career in education that I have loved and enjoyed for the past 26 years. Although his passing gives us great saddness, we should rejoice in the fact that he is no longer in pain, and in the knowledge that he will live on forever in our hearts.

I will always remember Dr. Clayton's hilariously dry sense of humor that was, at times, lost on so many. His door was always open to offer guidance or just to talk about today's soap operas! Without his caring advice, I probably would not be teaching today. Sherrie and family, thank you for sharing your dad/husband/grandpa with all of us!
Tracy Pozza Reed - Former Student
Dr. Clayton was one of the first people I "looked up to" at the beginning of my teaching career in the late 1970s. He had such a positive impact on all of us and always had information to share. I was truly honored to have him request permission to use information from one of my ABEA presentations in his classes. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs. Clayton, Sherri and Becky,I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Clayton. I remember so well his sense of humor. We had so many fun conversations in the VOED Dept. coffee room sitting at the table with Dr. Park. He loved to talk to me about my husband's Friday night football games. We also enjoyed many trips to ABEA in Little Rock. I'm sure you will hear many wonderful stories about how he made a difference in the life of everyone he came in contact with. Betsy

Dr. C was my doctoral advisor and he was remarkable, helpful, kind, and challenging. He guided me through the program and in October, 1973, I defended my dissertation and in May, 1973, I received my diploma. To be perfectly, as a teacher and advisor, he was wonderful.

When I was considering changing my major at the U of A from math education to business education, I called the business education office. Dr. Clayton immediately met with me, and I am forever grateful that he persuaded me that business education was the perfect degree! He and Dr. Park were the greatest role models anyone could have had. I know that I am one of many that will remember Dr. Clayton with honor and gratitude. His Christian witness was an inspiration, and he will be missed by all of us who knew him. His life had meaning, and he had a great impact on me and all of his friends and former students--young and old.
Jean Anna Sellers - Former Student
Dr. Clayton inspired me to be a great business education teacher--he was a shinning example for all of us. I was a student in his classes in 1977 and 1978. One of my favorite stories about him was when he told us about his first job at Prairie Grove--he had been told to protect the typewriters "no matter what happened." One day the fire alarm went off--Dr. Clayton had every student in class pick up a typewriter and had them carry them outside!
Phyllis Johnson - Former Student
Clayton family, we are so grateful for the privilege to have know Mr. Clayton. Caleb and Elizabeth greatly enjoyed having Mr.and Mrs. Clayton as teachers in Awanas and Sunday school, often coming home to share fond memories of the days classes. The energy, excitment, devotion, and passion for the children you exuberated is an inspiration to us all.

I first met Dr. Clayton when I first moved to AR in 1983. He was so helpful and genuinely concerned when I approached his as a "displaced" vocational teacher. Each time I saw him after that it was like seeing an old friend. I have been blessed with a great friend in Sherry. She has been such a support to me and so great to work with.
Teresa Dow - Friend Of Sherry

I'd heard of Dr. Clayton two years before meeting him (I was an NEOSU undergrad) & couldn't wait to become one of his students. Through him I learned so much of what I used daily for the 27.5 years I taught. First & foremost, I realized his faith, family, & friends were of utmost importance. I'm so saddened to read of his passing. Please accept my condolences.
Helen Hicks - Former Student
I had lost contact with Dr. Clayton a few years ago and have just found out that he passed away. I was back on campus at the UofA for commencement this weekend and my memories made me so thankful for Christian educators and mentors I had while receiving my degree in Business Education. I learned so much from Dr. Clayton and enjoyed being invited to play piano at his little country church while I was there! He was truly a role model.
